In some applications, users face additional challenges when operating HMIs. For example, in vehicles that are continuously in motion on uneven terrain or when using work equipment such as work gloves – which can cause additional difficulties in the operation of HMIs. To prevent unintentional actuation or operating errors, EAO as an expert partner for reliable, intuitive Human Machine Interfaces, is expanding the product portfolio with a new accessory – the new Series 09 Protective Shroud for the rugged keypads with 6 or 8 pushbuttons.

The robust and shock-resistant protective frame also serves to comply with specific standards in various areas of application. For example, the EN1501-1:2021 standard requires all control and monitoring units on the outside of garbage trucks to be secured against accidental actuation or contact. In this way, erroneous operation and uncontrolled movement of equipment parts such as the lifting devices can be avoided. Likewise, HMIs on garbage trucks must also be able to be operated with work gloves. The new Protective Shroud of Series 09 can simply be screwed onto the rugged keypads with 6 or 8 pushbuttons, thus separating the individual pushbuttons. The additional guidance of the fingers makes it easy to operate the desired function even when wearing work gloves.

Advantages

  • Prevention of unintentional actuation
  • Finger guidance and separation of the individual pushbuttons
  • Reduced risk of operating errors

The Series 09 Protective Shroud is not only a response to the EN1501-1:2021 standard for garbage trucks, but also offers real added value in other applications with the intuitive operation of the rugged keypads – for safe use in harsh applications.
