The system often has many different process steps that need to be timed together, which requires that you know where the material is in the machine, which in turn means that control of speed, position and / or angle is required. If you have, for example, an incremental encoder, you can get feedback to the system on how fast a conveyor belt moves. Thus, automatically adjusted speed adjustment can also be made possible. It is also possible to combine absolute encoders with incremental speed feedback in more security-critical applications.
