The 62NG Series Encoders are manufactured from 100% hard tooled piece parts and utilize a patented technology for optical switching. This is the same technology that has been field tested and proven reliable in the Series 62AG Encoder. These design enhancements enable the 62xG Range encoders to be price competitive, while providing superior reliability and performance. The optically-coupled switching in the Series 62NG enable the encoders to surpass one million rotational cycles, thus providing superior durability over corresponding mechanical encoders.
The new Series 62NG Encoder has one of the smallest footprints, at approximately a half-inch square (12.7 x 14.7mm to be exact), for a fully enclosed encoder. This compact encoder is ideal for space saving applications. Despite this compact size, it still offers a distinct tactile feedback. There are even two options for rotational torque, four options for angle of throw and a push button switch. Finally, the 62NG has the widest temperature range of any compact, enclosed encoder. Combined, these features make the Series 62NG Encoder ideal for mobile applications such as navigation systems, dashboard assemblies and portable medical electronics.
A special feature of the Series 62NG Encoder is a separate non-rotating pushbutton shaft. This ensures that text or symbols printed on the pushbutton cap remain upright while the encoder knob is rotated. Series 62NG has more options for angle of throw and a wider operating temperature range than any of the competition. No other enclosed encoder can offer this same level of price and performance.
Grayhill encoders generate a two bit digital output to measure the magnitude and direction of the shaft or knob rotation. Add the optional integrated push-button and these rotary encoders become the perfect device for scrolling items from a list or menu and selecting the desired function. Designers of equipment in industries including medical electronics, test and measurement, and audio / video will find the 62xG Range Encoders to be an effective and competitive user interface solution. Custom shaft configurations and switch terminations are available in annual quantities exceeding 500 units.
