Esterline Medigenic: Washable keyboard
There’s an alternative to conventional keyboards
Esterline, Advanced Input Systems has developed a smart infection-control keyboard that helps monitor its own cleaning status to safeguard both patient and staff. The Medigenic keyboard’s flat design quickly wipes clean with hospital-grade disinfectants. Users can touch-type with excellent tactile key response to swiftly document care.
The easily cleaned Medigenic high-data rate keyboard is designed for use in medical environ-
ments. Unlike conventional computer keyboards that can harbor reservoirs of harmful bacteria, this state-of-the-art device from Advanced Input Systems promotes cleanliness to combat cross-contamination. In just seconds, the Medigenic keyboard’s smooth non-porous surface can be clinically cleaned by utilizing a hospital-approved germicidal spray or wipe, including alcohol-based compounds. There are no raised keys to wipe around. No covers requiring replacement or disposal. No reason for submersion and drying. The Medigenic keyboard allows for easy disinfecting, which is essential for a clean medical environment.
Medigenic keyboard is sealed to IP65 standard.
There is a comfortable, ergonomic keyboard-mouse also. The system provides an on-board alert indicator that reminds users to clean both keyboard and mouse at regularly timed intervals. The mouse is with scroll-function.
Medigenic Compliance 105 key – with alert-function
Medigenic Compliance Small 102 key – with alert function
Medigenic Essential – without alert-function, developed for example dentists
Testing of the Esterline, Advanced Input Systems Medigenic keyboard in the medical surgical ICU at University College London Hospitals showed significant log reduction in bacterial contamination in the range of 0.5 log – 1.4 log (71% – 96%) at cleaning alert settings ranging from 1.5 to 12 hours.
The cleaning alert afforded a significant advantage in the Medigenic keybord design in promoting a high level of cleaning compliance and a reduction in bacterial contamination during use in the ICU. The timed interval may be changed by following the instructions. Note: This can only be done with a USB connection. Once changed, the new setting will function on either USB or PS2.
